Urban Decay played a large part to the fall of the Roman Empire. The empire once had 44,000 apartments within the walls. Each apartment was six stories high and very filthy. Although the apartments were dirty, the lowest story was the best and most expensive. If you didn't have any luck, and were poor, you lived in the top story which was shaky, smelly, and filthy. Some Romans had to live on the streets if they couldn't afford the bill. If the empty apartment stayed like that for a while, then it would be taken by the homeless or criminals. The streets were way worse than any apartment, though. Roman citizens didn't have anywhere to throw out their trash, so they would dump it out the window! Although many Romans lived in apartments or on the streets, not all citizens were poor or unlucky. Some had beautiful houses with marble walls, colored tiled floors, and glass windows!
